This site should provide you with the latest versions of UNC supported programs and applications. Some applications have special licensing restrictions and can not be downloaded from this site. However, many of these may be found on our Software Distribution site. If you have any questions or problems using software on this site, please visit our Online Help Desk, help.unc.edu or call 962-HELP. Some software packages require a UNC Onyen and Password and are noted with a secure icon . An Onyen can be created by any UNC Affiliate on the UNC Onyen Services page.

Adobe Acrobat Reader – DC

The Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) is a format for electronic distribution of documents while preserving such things as fonts, graphics, colors, and formatting. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free application that allows users to view these types of documents.

Alertus

Desktop Alert allows emergency messages from the Alert Carolina Emergency Notification System to be displayed on your computer when connected to the UNC network. For more information see the Alertus help document.

CCI Imaging

The CCI media will boot any supported Lenovo CCI model and install the UNC Chapel Hill load to a hidden service partition on the system hard drive. Following this initial process, the machine can then be booted to the software on the service partition and the UNC Chapel Hill menus for available software load configurations.

Note: This process only works when the computer is connected to the UNC Network and is registered for DHCP. This will not work for off-campus machines.

Fetch is a graphical FTP (file transfer protocol) client. It allows you to keep bookmarks for frequently visited sites, UNIX file permissions modifications, and includes support for the Internet Config control panel.

Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection Antivirus Client (Non-Managed – For University Owned Computers)

Microsoft System Center Endpoint Protection is the antivirus software for installation on University owned computers. This product is not licensed for personal computers of any UNC-Chapel Hill affiliate. We strongly recommend talking to your technical support group before installing. If you have any problems or questions about the installation, please call 962-HELP.

Microsoft Teams is a platform that combines workplace chat, meetings, notes, and attachments. The service integrates with the company’s Office 365 subscription office productivity suite, including Microsoft Office and Skype.

SecureCRT 9.x

SecureCRT combines the secure logon and data transfer capabilities of Secure Shell (SSH) with the reliability, usability and configurability of a proven Windows terminal emulator. This file must be downloaded from the Vandyke website so you can agree to their licensing terms. After installing the program email software@unc.edu using your University email account for the registration code.

Stuffit Expander 16

Stuffit Expander (also known as Aladdin Expander) is a utility that expands compressed archived files in the following formats: arc, arj, gzip, zip, tar, and sit. Stuffit will also decode uuencoded or binhexed files.
Note: Expander is only available as part of the StuffIt Standard Trial download package. If you only use the Expander application, you will not be asked to pay or register.

VPN Client (Cisco AnyConnect)

The Cisco AnyConnect VPN (Virtual Private Network) Client allows you to make secure connections to UNC servers from off-campus.

Be Aware of Export Controls

If you plan to take the Cisco VPN out of the country on a computer or plan to download it while abroad, be aware that the US Department of Commerce restricts the export of cryptographic software. The use of the Cisco VPN is also illegal in any of the following countries: Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Syria, and Sudan.

WinZip

This application allows you to compress and decompress archive files such as .zip files. This application is shareware and can only be evaluated for 45 days. After that you must purchase the application from WinZip Computing.
