Getting Spammed by Qualtrics Sales? No, You Do Not Have To Talk To Them

Several users have recently complained of persistent emails and phone calls from Qualtrics Research Services sales persons. We are trying to put an end to it on behalf of all UNC users, but be assured there is no reason you need to respond.  Feel free to ignore.  If you do need assistance with your research, consider consulting the professional staff of the Odum Institute or other campus resources first.

Qualtrics Support offers easy-to-read overview guides  explaining all the basic functionality.

If you prefer an instructor,  use their recorded webinars or sign up for live online training.  Both are available free of charge.

The UNC Qualtrics Tips and Tricks document provides additional helpful information.

Qualtrics Community is a thriving forum of users helping each other, where you can find tips for using Javascript, CSS, and HTML code, API integration, advanced programming features, and many more advanced tasks.  To post in the Community, you must request an account at a specific link for UNC users; the signup request on the Community pages will not work for UNC accounts.   Use your PID (not your onyen) as your username to request an account here.

Option 1: Consult Qualtrics Online Help Documentation.

Option 2: Use the “Help” option on the menu bar in the top right corner of every Qualtrics screen.

Option 3: Telephone Qualtrics for assistance at 1-800-340-9194 from 9am to 8pm Eastern, or email support@qualtrics.com. Qualtrics will need your username, which is your UNC PID followed by #unc (e.g. 456345789#unc). Your username is not your onyen.

Option 4: The Odum Institute for Research in Social Science offers consulting on a walk-in basis. For hours and details see http://www.odum.unc.edu/qualtrics.

Many Qualtrics projects involve collaboration.  If your collaborators need to preview your survey before it goes live, click the Preview Survey button in Qualtrics and copy the link that opens in the new browser tab.  Share that link with your collaborators and they will be able to experience the survey as it will be seen by your respondents.

If collaborators need to edit or distribute a survey that resides in your account, refer to the Sharing Access to Surveys help document.

UNC Qualtrics users now have access to the SMS distribution module. While the license fee is paid by the university, an individual must pre-purchase an allotment of text messages for their account in order to distribute surveys via SMS. The minimum allotment of text messages available for purchase is 50,000 messages for $500, paid directly to Qualtrics. Therefore, minimum cost to access the SMS module is $500. Text allotments are user-specific and cannot be shared with other users, but they never expire once purchased.

From within the Qualtrics interface, the SMS module allows the user to text Qualtrics survey links to any mobile number within or outside the U.S., provided the owner of the device has given prior express consent. Two-way functionality is also available within the U.S. or the U.K. Two-way SMS allows survey questions and answers to be transmitted one question at a time over separate SMS messages, but may not be used to collect sensitive data.

For questions about capabilities of the SMS module, see the Qualtrics SMS support page. To request access to the SMS module, complete the SMS Request Form. This agreement details the legal requirements of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and explains cost and billing procedures. Additional questions may be directed to qualtrics@unc.edu.

The Qualtrics Offline Surveys App runs on devices with iOS or Android and may be used for collection of sensitive information when following prescribed security procedures on iPad devices.

Logging into the offline app takes getting used to.  Instructions are provided in the help documents below.

The REST API provides developer tools to access Qualtrics data and functionality, enabling automation of repetitive tasks and/or integration with other databases.
